Getting over my post-holiday cold has allowed me time to make my choices for my favorite 2018 Golden Globe looks! I wondered how limiting the designs may be this year as most everyone chose black to stand in solidarity for all who've endured harassment, discrimination, and assault. However, the designers really upped their game! There were soooooo many amazing looks, but I've narrowed it down to my favorites below:
I love the way Gaultier plays with the stripes of the fabric in this dress. The uneven hem in the back gives the look a gothic feel while remaining elegant.
When I first saw this look I wasn't crazy about it. As a designer I would have lengthened the top a bit, just simply to bring the lace farther down to incorporate it into the skirt more. However, at second glance the disjointed part actually makes me really love it as it's unexpected. The peplum not only balances out the shoulders, but gives volume to go with the Victorian era walking skirt.
Presumably due to the way the Hollywood Foreign Press packs the nominees and presenters like sardines, you don't see a lot of fuller skirts at the Golden Globes. This silhouette plus the pink/peachy tones stood out in the sea of black. This look was elegant and modern at the same time.
I love the perfect draping on this Prabal Gurung frock. As a costume technician I'd love to see the inside of the dress, particularly the structure of the bodice. It looks effortless, but I know the craftsmanship was particular. The shimmery fabric choice was perfect to make this look stand out.
This Solace London look worn by Gillian Anderson proves design does not have to be complex to still be effective. The long right sleeve offers a Grecian goddess quality while the lack of sleeve on the other side shows off Gillian Anderson's unbelievably toned arms.
There were a lot of lady tuxes at the Globes this year, but Gal Gadot wore it best. Pairing her cropped tuxedo jacket with a sexy and sophisticated dress, Gadot perfectly embodied the TIME'S UP movement with her look. I loved so many looks this year, but if I had to choose a favorite - it would be this one.
